Plants for Beginners

Start with a plant that fits your room and watering habits. These forgiving houseplants are a practical first step, with live prices, sizes and stock on each listing.

Choose your first plant

  • For infrequent watering: ZZ Plant tolerates lower indirect light; let its mix dry between waterings. It is toxic if chewed.
  • For a shelf with trailing greenery: Golden Pothos likes indirect light and watering after the upper mix dries. Keep it away from chewing pets.
  • For a bright home with cats or dogs: Ponytail Palm is non-toxic to cats and dogs and needs bright light, drainage and a dry interval between waterings.
  • For arching, pet-friendly foliage: Spider Plant Bonnie suits bright indirect light and a regular moisture check.

A simple starting routine

Choose the location before the plant. Check the soil before watering, drain excess water, and adjust to the season. Low-light tolerance does not mean a plant can live without light.

Non-toxic does not mean edible. For more choices, compare pet-friendly plants and low-light plants. A separate decorative planter is included only when your selected variant names that pot style. Pot measurements are not arrival heights, and living plants naturally vary.

Live plants ship within the contiguous United States. See our shopping and arrival FAQ for shipping charges, natural variation and arrival-guarantee terms.
