A necklace you have to water. String of Pearls (Senecio rowleyanus) spills strands of round green beads over the pot edge, each one a tiny water tank built for drought.

Give it a bright shelf edge or a hanging pot near a window and the strands can grow past your elbow. It photographs like jewelry because that is basically what it is.

String of Pearls care

  • Light: Bright light with some gentle direct sun, the brightest spot you have.
  • Water: Sparingly. Let the soil go fully dry, then soak.
  • Soil: Sandy succulent mix, snug pot, sharp drainage.
  • Pets: Toxic if eaten, so keep those strands above pet height.
  • Growth: Strands lengthen fast in summer light.

Why do String of Pearls shrivel?

Wrinkled pearls mean the water balance tipped, and it is usually too much rather than too little. Check the soil first: if damp, hold off and improve light. If dust dry, one slow soak plumps them back up.
