Lace made of leaves. The Maidenhair Fern (Adiantum) floats hundreds of tiny fronds on wire thin black stems, soft as anything you can grow indoors.

This one is a relationship, not a roommate. It asks for steady moisture and rewards you with the most delicate texture in the entire houseplant world.

Maidenhair Fern care

  • Light: Soft, bright shade. Morning light through a sheer curtain is ideal.
  • Water: Never let it dry out. Keep the soil like a wrung out sponge.
  • Humidity: The higher the better. Bathrooms with windows are heaven.
  • Pets: Pet safe, cats and dogs included.
  • Growth: Soft mounds of fronds, refreshed constantly.

Why is my Maidenhair Fern drying out?

Almost always thirst or dry air, and it happens fast. If fronds crisp, cut them back, soak the pot, and keep moisture steady. Maidenhairs regrow from the roots more often than people expect, so do not give up on a rough looking pot.
