Patterned like a rattlesnake, gentle as a houseplant gets. The Rattlesnake Calathea (Goeppertia insignis) ripples with wavy, dark spotted leaves over deep plum undersides.

It brings serious pattern into lower light rooms where colorful plants usually will not go, and it does it without a single unsafe leaf for your pets.

Rattlesnake Calathea care

  • Light: Medium indirect light or bright shade. Sun bleaches the pattern.
  • Water: Consistently just moist, with good drainage underneath.
  • Water quality: Filtered or rainwater keeps leaf edges clean.
  • Pets: Fully pet safe.
  • Growth: Upright clumps to about two feet.

Why does my Calathea get crispy edges?

Usually dry air or minerals in tap water. Raise humidity, switch to filtered water, and new leaves will come in clean. The old crisped edges never heal, so judge your progress by the newest leaf.
