The Alocasia that came dressed as a cartoon. Alocasia Mickey Mouse (Xanthosoma sagittifolium variegatum) cups cream splashed leaves into rounded ears you will recognize on sight.

It grows big, fast, and cheerful, the rare aroid that does not take itself seriously while still stopping guests mid sentence.

Alocasia Mickey Mouse care

  • Light: Bright filtered light feeds the bold variegation.
  • Water: Regular drinks as the top settles dry, generous in summer.
  • Room: Give it space, mature leaves get large.
  • Pets: Keep out of paw and mouth range, toxic if eaten.
  • Growth: Fast to several feet in a good season.

Why is it called the Mickey Mouse Alocasia?

The variegated leaves pucker and cup into round eared silhouettes, and once someone says it you cannot unsee it. Botanically it is a Xanthosoma, a close cousin sold under the Alocasia nickname.
