Ginseng Ficus Bonsai (Ficus microcarpa)
A bonsai without the decade of homework. The Ginseng Ficus (Ficus microcarpa) stands on thick, exposed roots like a little tree that has been somewhere and seen things.
It brings the calm of bonsai culture to a windowsill, ready made, with the patience part optional.
Ginseng Ficus care
- Light: Bright light with a few hours of soft sun builds a dense canopy.
- Water: Water thoroughly once the surface dries, then let it breathe.
- Spot: A steady warm sill it can call permanent.
- Pets: Sap is toxic if chewed, keep clear of pets.
- Growth: Slow and shapeable, trunk thickening yearly.
Should I prune my Ginseng Ficus?
Yes, lightly and often. Trim back to two or three leaves on a shoot after it grows six or so, and the canopy tightens into that classic bonsai cloud. It regrows from cuts quickly, so experiment freely.
